Empowering Yiaku Women And Girls In Preserving Yiaku Language And Culture
Yiaku (also known as Yiakunte) is a nearly extinct Cushitic language spoken by the Yiaku people in Kenya, particularly in the Mukogodo Forest region. Historically, it was the primary language of the Yiaku community (people), but due to assimilation into the Maasai culture, many Yiaku now speak Maasai, samburu and Swahili. Efforts are being made to revitalize the language through cultural preservation initiatives.
During this day, we were able to witness the Inception of a project to build an academy for teaching Yiaku (Yiakunte) Language in Doldol, Laikipia North sub-county, Laikipia County. Project supported by FIMI.
