Kids having some stories as part of learning yiakunte language. Yiakunte is far more than just a language; it is the rhythm of a culture, an identity, and a way of looking at life. Extinct or near extinct in Laikipia, Kenya, it was extensively spoken by the Yiaku. When teaching kids Yiakunte, one is both physical and symbolic in compensating the language’s extinction; simultaneously, they revive the ethnic pride, identity, and continuity of the community. Our goal is to have Yiakunte be spoken through the tongue of children who are fluent, proud, and confident.
